A year of integrity commissioner services cost Port Colborne taxpayers $4,124, said a letter contained in city council’s Tuesday agenda.
Michael Maynard, of ADR Chambers, said he was appointed in January following the retirement of colleague Edward McDermott, who was serving as the city’s integrity commissioner.
In his letter, he said the costs covered services from February 2024 to February 2025. There were no code of conduct complaints received in that time and only one request for advice.
An integrity commissioner’s role is to ensure city councillors and the mayor are following the city’s code of conduct and the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act (MCIA). They also provide education and advice on ethical behaviour and compliance on both.
