Calgary police are investigating the drowning deaths of two men whose bodies were recovered from Mahogany Lake on Wednesday evening. Emergency services received reports of a possible drowning at approximately 5 p.m. in the southeast Calgary area.
According to a statement from the Calgary Fire Department (CFD), witnesses observed a 20-year-old man struggling in the water before he disappeared beneath the surface. The CFD deployed surface rescuers who utilized underwater cameras and search grids, along with shallow dives, to locate the area where the man was last seen.
The CFD then called in the Southern Alberta Underwater Search Team, a group of volunteer divers, to conduct a thorough SCUBA search of the lake. During the search, police discovered personal belongings belonging to another 20-year-old male near the beach area, leading them to believe that two individuals may have drowned.
Search teams successfully recovered the bodies of both men from the lake. Medical investigators are currently working to confirm their identities and notify their next of kin. The police have urged anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to them at 403-266-1234.
