An 18-year-old man has been charged with three counts of aggravated assault following a stabbing incident at the Calgary Stampede midway last month. The suspect, identified as Irfan Mohammadi, was arrested after police responded to reports of a man in medical distress near the Euroslide at Stampede Park on July 8 at approximately 11:05 p.m.
Shortly after the initial report, officers discovered an injured youth at the intersection of 17th Avenue and Macleod Trail S.E. They also found another man in distress at Erlton Street and 27th Avenue S.E. According to the Calgary Police Service, all three individuals were victims of the same stabbing incident.
"Investigators confirmed all three individuals were victims of the same stabbing incident near the Euroslide. The two additional victims were taken to hospital in serious but stable condition," police stated in a press release.
Following a review of video surveillance and witness interviews, police identified a suspect. A search of a residence in Calgary last Tuesday led to the seizure of a folding knife and clothing that matched what the suspect was wearing during the incident.
Irfan Mohammadi is scheduled to appear in court on September 2. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are encouraging anyone with information to contact the police at 403-266-1234 or to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
