Investigators will ask the public for help Thursday as they search for the person who shot and killed a 13-year-old boy waiting for his mother at a Pico Rivera gas station.

Shots were fired just before midnight Saturday on Whittier Boulevard, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The teen victim died at the scene in what authorities described as a random attack.

Investigators say the teen was shot at least four times. Macy Jenkins reports for the NBC4 News at 6 p.m. on Aug. 24, 2025.

He was identified by the medical examiner's office as Saith Toledo Mendez, who was waiting for his mother to finish her work shift at the gas station.
