Construction on a new 23-story tower for Northeastern University , one of the largest university construction projects to get a nod from local officials, is underway.

The building at 840 Columbus Avenue will house 1,370 students. In addition to 800 beds, the mixed-use building across from the Ruggles Station in Roxbury will have 124,000 square feet of academic space and 18,000 square feet of community space, according to the university.
