North Lanarkshire Council is to demolish 48 lock up-garages in Motherwell in order to provide more parking spaces in the town. ‌

Councillors have approved a project to remove the lock-ups in Watson Street due to low demand, exacerbated by problems with anti-social behaviour and vandalism. ‌

A report presented to the housing committee stated that as the lock-ups are designed to face away from housing, providing shelter for those engaging in undesirable activity, while the site would be more useful if it were converted to parking spaces. ‌
