The Franklin community took time to celebrate art displayed across the city this week.

Franklin officials held a ribbon-cutting on Wednesday for a new mural at the intersection of South Jackson and West Monroe streets near the amphitheater. The art, created by Indianapolis artist Nick Abstract and installed by the company Globe Asphalt Paving Co., aims to calm traffic and was completed in a more durable style, city officials said.

Studies have found that street art causes drivers to slow down, likely because they see something ahead of them. While the intersection hasn’t had a lot of traffic issues, the mural could help protect the increasing number of people who attend amphitheater events, said Dana Monson, Franklin’s community development specialist.
