DETROIT — One would be hard-pressed to find a faster-growing sport at the high school level than girls’ flag football.

The sport took another big step forward in said continued growth on Thursday with a pair of exhibition showcase matchups at Wayne State University, as part of the 20th annual Prep Kickoff Classic.

A year after holding one such game to kick off its new season festivities, the PKC doubled down and held back-to-back girls’ flag contests Thursday morning, featuring teams who were a part of the sport’s first-ever state championships back in June.

The first matchup saw Gibraltar Carlson, who burst onto the girls’ flag scene last spring, walk away with a 24-6 victory over Macomb L’Anse Creuse North. After falling behind early, the Marauders closed out the game with 24 unansw
