The Kentucky bourbon industry woes continue, with one of the state's senators saying the "tough times" are likely to prevail.

Republican Sen. Rand Paul , Kentucky's soon-to-be senior U.S. senator , said the combination of consumers buying less alcohol, too many people in the industry and the on-again, off-again tariffs are pinching the bourbon industry.

"All together, (it's) sort of a triple whammy," Paul said after giving a speech at an Aug. 26 Greater Louisville Inc. event. "And so, I think it's going to be tough times for a while."
