MIDLAND, Texas — Friday night lights are set to shine again across Texas, but a new law could quickly dim the evening for fans who can’t keep their cool.
Senate Bill 2929 gives referees, judges and other officials the power to remove disruptive and inappropriate spectators from UIL or school-sponsored events without issuing a warning.
“It can affect our ability to call the game,” said Michael Booker, a referee with 16 years of experience across the Permian Basin. “Our mind is not focused on the game, we’re worried about some parent behind us that’s attacking us.”
