WILMINGTON, North Carolina — A North Carolina man is accused of putting drugs in Dairy Queen ice cream intended for his grandchildren.
James Yokeley Jr., 66, is charged with contaminating food or drink with a controlled substance and felony child abuse, according to a news release from the Wilmington Police Department. He was released from jail on a $100,000 bond, reports say.
USA Today reports Yokeley is chairman of the Surry County Board of Elections. The board released a statement saying it’s aware of the charges against Yokeley.
“We will continue to collect information about the situation and will provide support to the Surry County board, as needed, to ensure it is able to continue serving the county’s voters,” the statement says.
