A 42-year-old man was convicted of second-degree murder and four other charges Thursday for driving drunk and the wrong way on interstate 696 in Macomb County, killing a Harper Woods man.

A jury returned the verdicts in the case against Stephano Nabors of Wisconsin following closing arguments early Thursday in the three-day trial in front of Macomb Circuit Judge in Mount Clemens.

Nabors drove a Jeep Liberty east in the westbound lanes of I-696 for several miles at about 3:30 a.m. May 8, 2023, before colliding head on with a GMC SUV driven by Steven Vannorstrand, 62, near Gratiot Avenue in Roseville.

Nabors, who has prior drunk driving convictions in Wisconsin, was intoxicated as his 0.175 blood-alcohol content after the crash was more than twice the legal limit and within the “super dr
