An Oakland County businessman suffered a cut to his face when his single-engine airplane crash landed Thursday night at Romeo State Airport in northern Macomb County, according to an airport official.
The incident happened about 8 p.m. when the pilot was landing on the asphalt runway of the airport, located on 32 Mile, east of Powell Road in Ray Township, just east of Romeo, said Steve Mazur, the facility’s property manager.
Mazur said the pilot endured a laceration to his face in the mishap but did not require medical treatment. The plane’s sole passenger was not hurt, he added.
“The plane was flying when the pilot heard a ‘popping’ sound,” Mazur said. “It may have been a problem with nose gear.”
The nose gear helps control the steering of the plane.
