BEAUMONT, Texas — Harmony Public Schools has purchased the former Market Basket grocery store building at 3955 Phelan Boulevard in Beaumont to help address afternoon traffic congestion at its elementary campus across the street.

The school district plans to use the property's parking lot as a staging area for parents picking up students from the Harmony elementary campus on Calder Avenue, according to John Boyd, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at Harmony Public Schools.

Plans are to have parents stage in the parking lot of the old Market Basket and then be sent over in groups to pick up their students, according to Boyd. The new pickup procedure is expected to begin sometime late next week.
