The manhunt for accused police killer Dezi Freeman has entered a fifth day, with officers battling brutal alpine weather as they comb Victoria’s rugged high country.

More than 450 officers are now deployed in the search effort, with Victoria Police joined by reinforcements from the Australian Federal Police, New South Wales, South Australia and the ACT.

Chief Commissioner Mike Bush said the scale of the operation reflects the seriousness of the situation and urged Freeman to surrender.

“In fact, if that person is listening, it really is time to lay down your firearms and give yourself up,” he said.
