BRENHAM, Texas (KBTX) - The No. 3 Brenham Cubs (1-0) beat the No. 8 Huntsville Hornets (0-1) 34-13 in a top 10 ranked season opener on Friday night.

Why did Brenham win? Both Brenham and Huntsville remained scoreless through the first quarter. The Cubs were able to pick up momentum at the end of the second quarter with a scoop and score to put Brenham in the lead and drove them to score three more touchdowns in the second half.

Standout performance: Linebacker, Caleb Espinoza, had the 17-yard fumble recovery touchdown. Plus, wide receiver, Chris Guidry, picked up two touchdowns in the Cubs win over the Hornets.

What’s next? Brenham travels to Sterling, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. Huntsville will play at Bryan, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
