However, on Saturday, Aug. 30, the Grandfather of College Football is set to make his 431st and final pick ahead of No. 1 Texas vs. No. 2 Ohio State, as he is retiring from ESPN and "College GameDay" after close to four decades on the show.

Since its inception in 1996, Corso's weekly end-of-show headgear pick segment has become must-watch television for college football fans, as it in many ways kick-starts the day of college football in the country. It's also created some hilarious memories over the years, whether it was the fun back-and-forth between Corso and Katy Perry or Bill Murray tackling him or him dropping an F-bomb at Houston-SMU in 2011 or him fully dressing up as mascots on the show.

And though there is almost absolute certainty on who Corso will pick on Saturday, as Brutus Buckeye is his forever first love, there sense of curiosity about the segment's future after LC steps away from the show.

Here's what to know on the headgear pick segment's future:

Will 'College GameDay' headgear picks continue without Lee Corso?

In response to an email inquiry from the USA TODAY Sports Network, ESPN mentioned that Coach Corso's legendary headgear picks on "College GameDay" will go into the sunset with the 90-year-old Corso after Saturday's Week 1 show.

"Everyone who is a part of the College GameDay family feels an incredible responsibility to carry forward all that we have learned from Coach Corso and to do our very best to make him proud when he tunes in every Saturday morning to watch the institution that he has built," Vice President of Sports Production and "College GameDay" Matthew Garrett said in a statement to the USA TODAY Sports Network.

"While Coach’s fingerprints will forever leave a lasting mark on GameDay, one thing that we all believe should remain as Lee’s tradition alone is his headgear pick. It’s a moment that is uniquely Lee's and it will retire along with the man who made it famous."

How long has Lee Corso made headgear picks on 'College GameDay'?

Corso has been making headgear picks on "College GameDay" for the last 29 years. With the help of Kirk Herbstreit and his wife, Alison, Corso made his first headgear pick on Oct. 5, 1996, when the show traveled to Columbus for Ohio State vs. Penn State. Corso, of course, put on Brutus Buckeye in that pick, the first of 45 times he has put on Brutus on the show.
