GRAND RAPIDS, MI – New improvements are coming to a trail that connects Grand Rapids’ downtown riverfront to neighborhoods on the southwest side.

Construction is starting next month on the Oxford Trail, a pedestrian path that starts on Wealthy Street, runs through Butterworth Park, crosses the Grand River, and runs south into Black Hills neighborhood.

The Grand Rapids City Commission on Tuesday, Aug. 26 approved a $5 million construction contract with Erhardt Construction for improvements to Oxford Trail.

The project will touch 1.5 miles of new and existing trailways. The improvements will include new shade spaces, a small performance amphitheater, grills and picnic tables, bike repair stations, playground equipment, and new connections to Godfrey Avenue and Hall Street.
