NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A boater thrown overboard when his sailboat struck the Causeway Bridge early Sunday (Aug. 31) was the subject of a search on Lake Pontchartrain, authorities said.
The United States Coast Guard and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office Marine Division confirmed the search Sunday morning for the missing man, whose name and age have not been disclosed.
Personnel and boats from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office also were assisting in the rescue effort.
Authorities said the sailboat collided with the bridge around 2:50 a.m., sending a man and woman into the water. The woman was rescued by the Coast Guard but the man remained missing.
The Coast Guard told Fox 8 the man’s last known position was near Mile Marker
