Democrats in the Oregon Legislature successfully advanced their transportation funding proposal through a key committee on Sunday after making some last-minute tweaks to appease Republican lawmakers.
On the third day of a special session , the legislative transportation committee approved a package that would raise taxes and fees to bolster road and bridge maintenance and public transit. The proposal passed 7-5, with only Democrats in support.
The funding plan , which now heads to the full House for a vote as early as Monday, would increase the state’s 40 cents per gallon gas tax by 6 cents, hike title and registration fees, require electric vehicle users to soon pay a fee per mile driven and temporarily double the state’s 0.1% payroll tax for transit, among other provisions.
