EAST PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - The East Peoria Fire Department quickly put out a fire that caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage and resulted in minor injuries to one of the residents.

A release from the assistant chief indicates the fire may have been due to overloading an electrical power strip.

The fire department found black smoke coming from the front of the house on East School Court.

The call came in about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Assistant Chief Ronnie Marmitt said firefighters made a rapid interior attack and the fire was out in less than five minutes.

Three people evacuated before firefighters arrived. Marmitt said one of the residents suffered minor injuries but declined hospital treatment.

Damage is estimated at about $40,000.
