SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- San Diego International Airport is preparing for a post-holiday rush, with Monday expected to be its busiest day.

On Sunday evening, the airport wasn't too busy, but an airport spokesperson said it will be a different story come Monday. Some travelers left Sunday night to get ahead of the crowds.

As the holiday weekend came to a close, travelers like Yadira De La Rosa headed out early to avoid Monday’s traffic.

“I have to go to San Jose and see my mom, and I’m very happy.”

De La Rosa was one of many trying to avoid crowded terminals and busy roads.

“I want to avoid the traffic and all the vacations and everything. I really have to be in San Jose today. Look at this, it’s beautiful. It’s empty. This is the perfect day to travel," she said.
