A police officer who stole £300 from a vulnerable member of the public after attending his home is facing jail.

PC Qumar Ahmed, 31, lifted the cash from David Crawford after visiting him in a sheltered housing complex in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire . Mr Crawford, 62, reported the missing funds and a search of Ahmed's home discovered almost £250 in notes.

Ahmed and a colleague from East Kilbride police station had visited Mr Crawford in June 2022 after concerns had been raised for his wellbeing. Ahmed spotted bank statements showing he had accounts holding cash and later returned alone to target his victim.

Mr Crawford, who has since died, struggled with mental health issues before he was robbed.
