Peoria doctor breaking mental health stigma

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- Believing in providing compassionate care while improving outcomes for at-risk youth in the greater Peoria area.

"Let's reduce that stigma," said Keila Sierra Cintron, MD.

Keila Sierra Cintron is a doctor of behavioral health, psychiatry, and psychology for Carle Health's Trillium Place Young Minds Center in Peoria. She guides youth in a trusted environment to receive a range of services.

"I look at it as an umbrella where we offered assessments for anybody who is needing any kind of resources," said Sierra Cintron. "From that assessment, we can then refer to an outpatient service setting where they can see a counselor, they can be referred to see a psychiatrist, or for those who are at risk, can then benefit from an inpatient treatment."
