South Carolina has had a no texting while driving law in place for years.
In May, South Carolina lawmakers passed a hands-free law prohibiting drivers from using a phone or tablet on the road. The law went into effect on September 1st.
The first offense will cost you $100. Two or more tickets within three years is $200 plus points on your driving record. There will be a little grace period for drivers as they get used to the new law.
Drivers can use their phones when they are parked or in the case of a crash or emergency. First responders are exempt from the law for official duties.
