BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Scammers continue to attempt new ways to lure in victims in hopes of stealing money and personal information. There are two ways in particular that have become a popular method for scammers.

Amazon Smishing

Best known for its quick deliveries and user-friendliness, the global tech giant Amazon is used all around the world. Knowing this, scammers impersonating Amazon send out a text message to your phone, alerting you that a recently purchased item failed a routine quality inspection or has been recalled. To take on the role of being as user-friendly as possible, the message prompts you to retype your purchasing information in a provided link, to receive a full refund for the trouble. This way of luring customers into a scam is called smishing.
