SALEM, Ore. (KPTV) - A transportation package to fund the Oregon Department of Transportation is heading to the Senate after being passed by Oregon’s House of Representatives on Monday.

Lawmakers passed House Bill 3991 and House Bill 3992 following much debate on the floor during Monday’s special session .

Governor Tina Kotek’s transportation package aims to save ODOT from major layoffs but comes with some changes for Oregonians including increased gas tax, doubled payroll tax, and increased vehicle registration fees.

Republicans have said they don’t like the bill because they don’t think Oregonians should be paying for ODOT’s poor funding choices.
