ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) — For the first time in more than a decade, two Altoona Curve teammates swept the Eastern League’s weekly awards, cementing their names in franchise history.

Pitcher Wilber Dotel was recognized as the league’s Pitcher of the Week and Esmerlyn Valdez was named Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Curve through a standout series in Harrisburg. It marks just the fourth time in franchise history that Altoona players claimed both honors in the same week.

Dotel delivered a dominant performance on the mound, tossing 10.2 scoreless innings across two starts. The 22-year-old right-hander allowed only two hits, four walks and struck out nine.
