A hero delivery driver has told how he smashed his way into a burning building in a selfless bid to save a stranger - in what proved to be a fatal flat fire . ‌

Carl Nielsen was left coughing and vomiting up black soot after kicking the door of the ground-floor flat in to try and save a man who was trapped inside. ‌

But he was unable to get to the man, who was later pronounced dead, and Carl has been left emotionally scarred from his selfless rescue attempt in Dundee on Saturday . ‌

Carl, who works for grocery delivery company Snappy Shopper, was delivering to a street in Dundee when he noticed smoke pouring from the building and distraught neighbours shouting for help.
