Gastonia police are following school buses to ensure that other drivers follow traffic laws.

Police began following buses at the beginning of the year and will be doing so periodically, Gastonia Police Department Sgt. Dan Lane said.

Lane said that the idea came to him after speaking with bus drivers who said that people often do not stop when buses are stopped, as the law requires.
