CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Fall foliage across the Appalachian region is expected to be typical to dull this season, according to a recent forecast from AccuWeather.
The forecast, which contrasts with predictions of vibrant colors for the Midwest and interior Northeast, is attributed to a summer characterized by both drought and heavy rainfall.
Lead long-range expert for AccuWeather, Paul Pastelok, said that this year’s fall foliage will likely disappoint "leaf peepers" in areas including West Virginia, Western Maryland and Southeastern Ohio.
He noted that the best displays of red, orange and yellow leaves are predicted to be in a zone stretching from the interior Northeast and Great Lakes through the Mississippi River Valley.
