PORT RICHEY, Fla. — A Port Richey senior said he is at risk of losing his home and going bankrupt after falling victim to a romance scam.

Now, he wants other seniors not to fall for the scheme.

"If you feel that something isn't right, stay with that feeling. Don't let yourself get in so deep that you can't get out," said David Cruz.

Cruz, a former firefighter and police officer, has spent a lifetime giving back, but in just weeks, so much was taken away.

The 70-year-old still volunteers at the local emergency operations center and has a passion for service. He even helped storm victims during the recovery process post-hurricanes Helene and Milton.
