Wednesday marked the start of classes for thousands of kids across the London region – and it was an especially memorable one for the students, parents and teachers setting foot in a brand-new school in the city’s southwest end.

Now officially open, 770 pupils from kindergarten to Grade 8 were settling into their new classrooms Wednesday morning at White Pine public school at 3370 Regiment Rd., easing the enrolment pressure faced by several schools in the area.

“It’s been months in the making, and certainly a lot of work,” said Kristin Lynds, principal of the new school. “It’s been a labour of love, and just can’t wait, because really the reason we’re here is for students, and today’s the day that they arrive.”
