(WFXR) - The Virginia State Police are reporting six people killed in fatal crashes over the Labor Day Weekend, down from ten in 2024.

In three of those fatal crashes, the victims were not wearing a seat belt. Two fatalities involved motorcycles. The VSP couldn't determine if the sixth fatality was restrained or not.

The fatal crashes were reported in Alexandria, Chesapeake (2), Lynchburg, Norfolk, and Frederick County.

Effective July 1, 2025, drivers and their passengers are required by state law to buckle up, regardless of where they are seated in the vehicle. Children under the age of eight must be properly secured in a child safety seat or booster seat.
