WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead after an Amtrak train collided with a vehicle on Wednesday morning in Williamson County.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said troopers responded to the crash around 10 a.m., along State Highway 79 and County Road 110, near Round Rock. The initial investigation indicates a Toyota 4Runner was stopped on or attempting to cross the railroad tracks when an eastbound Amtrak train struck the vehicle. DPS said the crossing where the crash occurred is not protected and leads to private property.

At the time of the crash, the Amtrak train – identified as Amtrak Train 22 by the company, on its way from San Antonio to Chicago – had 71 passengers and nine crew members on board. No passengers or crew members reported injuries, but the driver of
