OKLAHOMA CITY — Four members of the Oklahoma State Board of Education held an extraordinary special meeting Wednesday — without State Superintendent Ryan Walters in attendance — to hire new legal counsel and establish a process for hiring a new board secretary.

“There is nothing about this that is normal or right,” board member Chris VanDenhende of Tulsa told news reporters after the seven-minute meeting, which was held in a legislative conference room in the Oklahoma State Capitol instead of its usual location at the Oklahoma State Department of Education.
