The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have announced a significant police presence in Richmound, Saskatchewan, where cult leader Romana Didulo and her followers have resided for the past two years. This small village, located near the Alberta border and home to about 118 residents, is approximately 365 kilometers west of Regina.
The RCMP stated that officers have been deployed due to an ongoing investigation in the area. In a brief statement, they assured the public, saying, "There is no known risk to public safety. We will provide an update on this investigation later today."
Didulo, who refers to herself as the "Queen of Canada," has been known for promoting various conspiracy theories. Her group has reportedly caused disruptions for local residents. The followers have been living in a former school building in the village.
Tensions in Richmound have escalated over the past months. In July, the village office limited public access, allowing visits only by pre-arranged appointments. This decision was made in response to incidents of harassment and intimidation directed at staff members.
Rick Manz, the owner of the property where Didulo's group is based, has faced legal issues. He was charged with assault, resisting arrest, and uttering threats during an encounter with law enforcement.
Residents of Richmound have expressed mixed feelings about the presence of Didulo and her followers. Some have described living near the group as akin to being next to a "dormant volcano," indicating a sense of unease about the situation.
As the investigation continues, the RCMP are expected to provide further updates regarding their findings and any potential implications for the community.
