Hundreds of new and returning college and university students gathered under sunny skies at Harmony Square on Wednesday for the annual mayor’s lunch.

“The student population has become so important to the energy and vitality of our downtown,” said Brantford Mayor Kevin Davis.

“The idea behind this lunch is to establish a connection between city hall and the students, to let them know they’re appreciated and that we value what it is that they bring to Brantford. We’re doing everything we can to make sure they have a great year here at Laurier Brantford or Conestoga College.”

Davis stopped to chat with students seated at picnic tables in Harmony Square where they ate barbecued hamburgers and hotdogs.
