The campus of UMass Lowell is under a shelter-in-place order after a person was reported with what is suspected to be a gun, a campus official said Wednesday.

Officers were working to find the person, who was described only as male, according to the school statement.

Massachusetts State Police, who were investigating, acknowledged video circulating online that appears to show someone with a weapon walking near the Riverview Suites residence hall. They asked anyone with information to call 911.

The FBI was investigating alongside its local law enforcement partners, a spokeswoman said, encouraging the public to be vigilant and keep away from the area.
