BLENDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Ottawa County could soon be home to a brand-new battery energy storage system, but it has sparked controversy in the community where it would be built.

A BESS is designed to store electricity during times it is not needed and release electricity to a grid when it's needed, according to township officials.

A business called Key Capture Energy first approached the township nearly two years ago. On Thursday, the company submitted an application to Blendon Township to bring a BESS.
