CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Clarksville City leaders are working to address the need for affordable housing.
As you drive through Clarksville, you’ll come across several rundown and dilapidated homes. The city is also experiencing a surge of people moving into the area like never before, creating a new problem.
“As people come here, the prices of our homes are increasing, which makes it extremely difficult for low to moderate-income families, especially those in entry-level positions,” said Michelle Austin, the Director of Clarksville Neighborhood and Community Services.
Austin says the city is now considering developing a land bank, allowing it to acquire vacant and abandoned buildings, which would then be redeveloped into affordable housing.
