ATHOL, Mass. (WWLP) - State and local officials joined community partners to celebrate the grand opening of a new canoe and kayak launch on the Millers River.

The $385,000 project, led by the Department of Fish and Game’s Office of Fishing & Boating Access (OFBA), adds a concrete boat launch, shore fishing area, and parking facilities in downtown Athol. The site opens up 6.6 miles of new paddling from Royalston to Athol and connects to the downstream six-mile Blue Trail section from Athol to Orange.

“The Millers River offers some of the best outdoor recreation our state has to offer,” said DFG Commissioner Tom O’Shea. “The Healey-Driscoll Administration is delighted
