BRECKENRIDGE — Students and teachers at Breckenridge Elementary may not be able to start school on time after a water main break flooded the building’s basement and forced the district to cancel its open house on Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Hundreds of elementary students and their parents were expected at the school for Back to School conferences, but instead, machinery was outside the school as crews worked to dry the basement. A steady stream of water flowed from the school into a nearby storm drain.

The district posted on its Facebook page Wednesday morning that the water main break caused the flooding. It is one of several leaks the aging elementary school has faced, some of which forced flex learning days last winter.
