FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Senate District 21 candidate who came in third in last month's special election has requested a recount in the race.
A spokesperson for Georgia's Secretary of State's Office said that candidate, Steve West, was within the margin for a recount.
West ran against six other candidates. Results from that night placed West, a Republican, in third, with 17.05% of the vote.
The top two contenders were Democrat Debra Shigley and Republican Jason Dickerson. While Shigley received 39.51% of the votes, the results tallied showed Dickerson had 17.36% -- which left a small margin for West to come in third.
In Georgia, a candidate can request a recount if the margin is less than or equal to 0.5% -- which West meets in this case. The Secretary of State's Office said Fulto
