TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - A 15-year-old homeschooled girl from the Catalina Foothills, Logan Bishop, has been denied participation in the Catalina Foothills High School cheerleading team, despite initially being told she could join.
The issue arose when the school district discovered that Logan's family uses Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) funds. ESA is a program that allows parents to use their child's state educational funding for various educational expenses, including homeschooling and extracurricular activities at public schools.
Logan Bishop says her two cousins inspired her to try out for the team, one who is a cheerleader for the Kansas City Chiefs and the other one who was a former cheerleader at Catalina Foothills High School.
