CAMERON, Texas (KWTX) - Cody Villarreal, 38, a fugitive sought since last week in the shooting of his girlfriend near Buckholts, was captured late Wednesday night, the Milam County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff said Villarreal was apprehended thanks to a “wealth of tips” and with the help of the Bell County Sheriff’s Office. No further details regarding the arrest were provided.

The Milam County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 1800 block of County Road 104, off FM 1915 outside Buckholts, on Aug. 26.

Deputies found a woman, identified as 24-year-old Grace Durbin, suffering from a single gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital and told authorities she had been shot by her boyfriend, identified as Villarreal.
