WATERTOWN – Dongeun Rhee, a student at the Taft School in Watertown, CT, has been named the Connecticut state winner of the 2025 Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) competition, the world’s most prestigious youth award for a water-related science project.

Selected for her project “Biomimetic Filtration: Applying the Voronoi Pattern of Sea Urchin Shells to Remove Lead from Connecticut’s Water Supply and Combat Marine Desertification”, Rhee went on to represent Connecticut at the national competition, which took place June 19-22, 2025 at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. Rhee competed with other young researchers from across the country for the opportunity to represent the United States at the international competition, which took place in Stockholm, Sweden in late August.
