EUCLID, Ohio (WOIO) - The man who raced into a burning home and pulled a woman to safety, will be honored by Euclid city officials Thursday.

Just before 2 a.m. on July 7, Jovonne Smith was driving home when he saw flames pouring from a house in the 800 block of E. 239th St.

Smith stopped his car and heard the woman screaming.

That is when Smith ran to the home and helped a woman who had jumped from a window on the second floor.

The 56-year-old woman was transported to University Hospitals for treatment.

Euclid Fire Chief Jay Womack said a 73-year-old man died in the blaze.

He has been identified as Frederick Douglas Brown, of Euclid.

Damage is estimated at $200,000 and a neighbor’s house also had damage due to the high heat, said Chief Womack.
