ANN ARBOR, MI — A semitrailer hauling a heavy load of steel veered off I-94 outside Ann Arbor, crashing into the tree line Wednesday evening.

Rescue crews were called at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, to eastbound I-94 east of the Jackson Avenue exit for a jackknifed semitrailer that went off the south shoulder of the freeway, according to the Ann Arbor Fire Department.

The driver suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment, the fire department reported.

The trailer was carrying steel coils, all of which came loose and bounced eastbound onto the freeway, the fire department said.

Cleanup and recovery efforts required an extended response by the Washtenaw County Road Commission and Corrigan Towing.
