MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 16-year-old and his mother have been arrested after a shooting on Beale Street that injured a 17-year-old after the 901 Day celebrations Monday.
Memphis Police announced Thursday that the teen is charged with attempted second-degree murder. He was taken into custody Wednesday by the Violent Crimes Unit and Multi-Agency Gang Unit.
His mother, Suntria Stackins, 49, is also charged with accessory after the fact.
Officers say they responded to an aggravated assault in the 100 block of Beale Street around 10:15 p.m. Monday.
The victim told police it started when he witnessed a fight near the intersection of Beale Street and November 6th. As he was leaving the area of the fight, he said he heard gunshots and was struck several times.
